Recently, I wrote an article about how the US State Department used an inaccessible captcha on their official blog website.
I’m happy to say that the anti spam tool is accessible and there is no barrier for a person with visual impairment.
An apology is in order. I was wrong, and I apologize for publishing an article and twitter messages about a captcha that turned out to be incorrect. It was brought to my attention that the Alt text reveals the captcha value for screen reader users. In the future, I will be more careful about publishing an article that calls out a website for accessibility issues.
The article did point out that the State Department adheres to an program called Impact and is committed to Section 508 compliance.
I think it’s wonderful that our Federal Government Websites for going the extra mile to make electronic documents and websites accessible to all users.
