SOLONA CSS INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAC / APPLE USERS

PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended to read these instructions fully before attempting to use the solver service and become familiar with the key strokes. It is also recommended that you try Solona before you really need it! Also, here are some points to keep in mind when using Solona:

  1. It is better to capture AND submit the CAPTCHA image before filling out any fields or information on the web page.
  2. Be sure that your screen reader is in Forms Mode if necessary prior to capturing the image that you want to submit. This helps with screen placement and reduces errors.
  3. Check to make sure that your screen brightness is set to ‘high’.
  4. Be sure that images are enabled in your browser AND make sure that your browser window is maximized!
  5. Once you complete these steps, which should take less than one minute, you can return to the form to complete the other fields while waiting for the CAPTCHA data to be returned to you.
  6. Please pay attention to the on / off status on the front page in order to know whether or not an operator is standing by when you need a solution.

There are two ways for Mac and Voice Over users to interface with Solona to solve Captchas.  The first way is by means of an API tool developed by Theresa Ford.  The tool and it’s technical information can be found at http://www.cattail.nu/mac/solona.  Please visit Theresa’s page to read about this tool and This tool allows a Mac user to access Solona functionality without ever opening the Solona web page.  I highly recommend that you take advantage of Theresa’s SendToSolona tool.  It is a very well-developed tool that makes solving Captchas on Mac very easy.

The other way for Mac users to use Solona is by using the web page interface.  The steps and instructions to use the web interface are below.  Either method will provide users with the same result.  The choices exist so that users can use the option that fits their environment best.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLE / MAC USERS.

  1. Find the CAPTCHA on the web page that you need to solve. Then, open a new browser tab, or browser window and login to your Solona account.
  2. Next you will need to find the Command (or Apple) key, the shift key and the number 3 key. After you have pressed them all together you will want to make sure you are hovering over the window you want to screen shot. Once you are hovering over the correct window press the space bar to highlight the window and then left-click the mouse to take the screen shot. Return to the Solona browser tab and follow the prompts to upload image.
  3. Your screen shot will automatically be saved to your desktop and you don’t need to worry about re-saving it to a different format.
  4. Once you have a confirmation that the image was uploaded successfully, wait about 30 seconds and use the “Refresh Results” button to get code (a few clicks may be required)
  5. Copy and Paste Captcha code into original web page field, or correct issue according to error message sent.
  6. Leave feedback to let Solona know how we did!

Solona is configured so that you may send one CAPTCHA after another if necessary. All you have to do is repeat the steps to capture the image by using the same tool that is located on the same page where you obtain the solution results.

TYPICAL PROBLEMS AND TROUBLESHOOTING

  1. This is a black screen. Please increase your brightness, then recapture and resubmit – this is an issue specific to Mac users.
  2. Please maximize your browser window so I can see the Captcha. You will need to recapture and resubmit – this is an issue that can occur when a user does not use the automated too.
  3. The Captcha is below the bottom of the image window. Please scroll down and recapture and resubmit – simply scroll down and recapture with the tool. Make sure that your screen reader is in Forms Mode.
  4. The Captcha is above the top of the image window. Please scroll up and recapture and resubmit. – simply scroll up and recapture with the tool. Make sure that your screen reader is in Forms Mode.
  5. It appears that images are disabled in your browser. Please enable images, then recapture and resubmit – check your browser settings and determine whether or not images are disabled. If disabled, please enable them. You might have to refresh the browser page to acquire images.
  6. The Captcha is blocked by another program window. Please rearrange the windows so that I can see the Captcha – another program (or Windows error screen) is physically covering the Captcha, so it can’t be solved.
  7. There is no Captcha to solve on this image – Perhaps you are not on the right screen. Take another look on the web page and make sure there is a Captcha to be solved.
  8. I am unable to accurately translate the captcha. Please refresh the window, then recapture and resubmit. Some Captchas are simply too difficult to read. When this happens, we ask users to refresh the Captcha, or simply solve it incorrectly with any text, and resubmit a new Captcha image.

Note that there is no way to contact an operator over the phone. We want as little contact as possible to ensure your privacy and the efficiency of the solution service. Solona will not provide any registration service over the phone. We do not want to know any personal information about you. We only convert the CAPTCHA image into text format.
